Norma Barz Voetberg Estate
United was the recipient of a generous gift from the Norma Barz Voetberg estate. The seminary was one of 12 organizations Norma wanted to support in hopes for a "better tomorrow."
Norma's parents owned and operated a general merchandise store in Garner, Iowa. They were among the original charter members of Garner's Zion Reformed Church, where, at age 14, Norma became the church organist. After graduating from Garner High School, Norma enrolled at Drake University, where she received her teaching degree. She married Dr. Henry Voetberg, an area veterinarian. They were actively involved in Zion Church and generous contributors to the church's rebuilding efforts.
Shortly after celebrating their 50th anniversary in 1987, Henry suffered a severe stroke; six months later, Norma suffered a debilitating stroke. They spent their remaining years in a nursing home, Henry dying in 1989 and Norma in 2001.
It was Norma and Henry's wish that recipients of their estate use the gifts to make the world a better place in which to live. They also wanted each of the beneficiaries to publicize the names of the other benefiting organizations. They include Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Gamer Rotary Service Club, United Presbyterian Church, American Legion and VFW Posts, Prairie View Retirement Apartments, United Methodist Church, local chapter of the Women's FNPEO Sisterhood, Volunteer Ambulance Service, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lakeland College of Sheboygan, and Drake University.
Norma and Henry were major supporters of their community and other institutions, and we are deeply grateful for their generous and thoughtful spirit.
